Lake Malawi is an African Great Lake and the southernmost lake in the East African Rift system, lying between Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Known also as Lake Nyasa in Tanzania and Lago Niassa in Mozambique, it ranks fourth in the world by volume and holds more fish species, including at least 700 endemic cichlids, than any other lake.
