Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas and the governmental and cultural hub of Central Texas, on the Colorado River. Originally the capital of the Republic of Texas, it has grown into a major technology and education center and is home to the University of Texas. The city is widely known for its live music scene and is the twelfth-largest city in the United States by population.
