Columbus is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Ohio, at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers in central Ohio. Founded in 1812 and made the state capital in 1816, it grew into a major transportation and industrial hub before diversifying into finance, insurance, education and technology. Its metropolitan area exceeds 2.1 million residents.
