Luxembourg City is the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers in the south of the country. Founded on a fortified rock acquired by Siegfried I in 963, it now functions as a de facto European Union capital, hosting institutions including the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Investment Bank.
