Moscow is the capital and largest city of Russia, standing on the Moskva River in Central Russia. With a population of 13,010,112 at the 2021 census, it is the most populous city entirely in Europe. First documented in 1147, Moscow grew from a medieval principality into the political, economic and cultural center of Russia.
