Port of Spain is the capital and chief port of Trinidad and Tobago, serving as a retail, administrative and financial services center for the Caribbean region. The site was settled in 1560, the city became a borough on 19 August 1853, and was granted city status on 26 June 1914. It had a population of 37,074 at the 2011 census.
