Skopje is the capital and economic hub of North Macedonia, in the Skopje Valley along the Vardar River. The city blends ancient Roman origins (as Scupi) with medieval Serbian heritage and Ottoman influences, having been largely reconstructed after a devastating 1963 earthquake.
