Azerbaijan, officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, is a transcontinental landlocked country at the boundary of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, in the South Caucasus region. The Supreme Council of Azerbaijan adopted a Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union on 18 October 1991. Its capital is Baku.
