Eswatini is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa to the north, west and south and Mozambique to the east, with terrain ranging from cool mountainous highveld to hot, dry lowveld. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 6 September 1968 as the Kingdom of Swaziland, renamed the Kingdom of Eswatini in April 2018. It is an absolute monarchy. Its executive capital is Mbabane and its legislative capital is Lobamba.
