Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is situated on the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, and shares borders with Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, and Togo to the east. On 6 March 1957, Ghana became the first colony in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve sovereignty; it became a republic on 1 July 1960. Its capital is Accra.
