India is a country in South Asia, bordered by Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan to the north, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. It became independent from British rule in 1947, when the British Indian Empire was partitioned into India and Pakistan. Nepal's own southern, eastern and western frontier lies entirely with India, making it Nepal's largest bordering country.
