Ireland is a country in Northwestern Europe consisting of twenty-six of the thirty-two counties of the island of Ireland, sharing its only land border with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom. The Irish Free State was established in 1922, and the state was formally declared a Republic in 1949. It is a unitary parliamentary republic. Its capital is Dublin.
