Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, is a country in the Levant region of West Asia, bordered by Syria, Israel and the Mediterranean Sea. It gained independence from Free French administration on 22 November 1943. After decades as a financial and cultural hub, Lebanon endured a civil war from 1975 to 1990 and subsequent foreign occupations. Its capital is Beirut.
