Mexico is the northernmost country in Latin America, bordering the United States to the north and Guatemala and Belize to the southeast, with maritime boundaries on the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico declared independence from Spain on 27 September 1821, after a war that began on 16 September 1810. Its capital and largest city is Mexico City.
