Uruguay is a country in the Southern Cone of southeastern South America, bordering Argentina to the west and southwest and Brazil to the north and northeast, with the Rio de la Plata to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. It declared independence from the Empire of Brazil on 25 August 1825. It is a unitary presidential republic. Its capital is Montevideo.
