North Dakota is a landlocked state in the Upper Midwest of the United States, named after the indigenous Dakota and Sioux peoples, bordered by the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba to the north and by Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana. Admitted to the Union in 1889 alongside South Dakota, its capital is Bismarck.
