Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a valley along the Miljacka River surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. It is known as the site of Archduke Franz Ferdinand's 1914 assassination and for enduring the longest siege of a capital city in modern history during the 1992 to 1996 Bosnian War.
