Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in the Southern Cone of southwestern South America, the southernmost country in the world, extending along a narrow strip of land between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Chile was proclaimed an independent republic from Spain on 12 February 1818. Its capital is Santiago.
