Iowa is a landlocked state in the upper Midwestern region of the United States, bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri and Big Sioux rivers to the west, with Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota as neighbors. Admitted to the Union in 1846 as the 29th state, its capital is Des Moines.
