Kosovo is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe, bordered by Albania to the southwest, Montenegro to the west, Serbia to the north and east, and North Macedonia to the southeast. Its capital and largest city is Pristina. Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. Its international status remains partially recognised and disputed: as of this entry's writing (source accessed 2026-08-29), it has gained diplomatic recognition from at least 110 of the 193 United Nations member states, while Serbia and a number of other states, including Russia and China, do not recognise it as a sovereign state.
